COWBOY UP!

Sometimes you just gotta "Cowboy Up".  Own your stuff and suck it up and do what you need to be doing.  Change.  Grow.  Not because it is easy, but because you can't move forward if you don't.

This past week I was talking with a dear friend of mine.  I was telling her that I was struggling to shift something.  That I needed to let go of the hurt I was feeling around something and I struggled.  She told me to just suck it up and do it.  She also reminded me that I have the capacity to redirect energy and transform the world around me in that process.

And so.  I'm gonna Cowboy up.

I noticed it requires me letting go of the fear that can chain me.  It requires an expansion of a tender heart.  And it requires a mindful consideration of each step ahead.

It is too easy to simply grapple with the idea of change and not afford yourself the opportunity.  It is relatively effortless to acknowledge a grave wound as though that exempts you from accountability to your own behavior or attitudes.  And yet, that simply structures more of the same for your life.

I'm tired of being afraid that the things I value and love and cherish will be swayed or tainted by some outside source.

And so I choose to "Cowboy Up" and do what I gotta do to clean up my stuff.  To truly let go of the fear that can ride me and hold myself accountable to this change.  Otherwise, I simply invite myself to continue walking a wounded journey and that just isn't me.

I care too much about the potential ahead of me.  I care too much about the connections that surround me.  And I find.... In a very gratifying moment... that I care far too much about myself to be less that I am capable of being.

I have never heard the term “Cowboy Up,” but I like it. It's rugged yet honest. Let your passion for live and love you have for yourself move you beyond the fear. Yet embrace the fear for it is recognition of the tremendous growth that awaits you on the other side fear.

Peace~

Powerful stuff.  The most important lesson I have ever learned is deep accountability at a serious minute to minute level - not saying I am always there, but at least it is part of my process now.  All the life up to this minute is ours to own - we can be victims or we can cowboy up (it was the catchphrase of the Boston Red Sox last season, meaning “no excuses”).  I'm with you - I choose to cowboy up.  Thanks for sharing.

David - beautiful sentiment and one that I wholly believe.  And am encouraged to continue doing.  Thank you

Rick - Thank you.  I'm a die hard believer in accountability.  I love the image and the idea of “cowboy up”.  It does mean “no excuses”.  What a cool comment.
